 SQL 2005 Finaly Released! |
SQL released after two year delay
SOFTWARE giant Microsoft has finally got around to releasing SQL 2003, two years late. SQL 2005 hits the shops today nearly five years after the last SQL release.
Despite the snail pace release, the software has had good reviews from its beta testers and trial customers.
According to Computerworld, some of the punters describe SQL as "not a 1.0 version" and will probably not need the patch management or service packs of previous versions.
Reviewers think that it could cause a few headaches for the market leaders Oracle and IBM within the coming months.
SQL Server 2005 supports database encryption, native storage, full-text search, and querying of XML documents. It has added business intelligence functionality and is integrated with Visual Studio 2005, so that developers can use C# or Visual Basic if they want.
However, even after five years, some of the promised functions including database mirroring for automatic backups aren't due to be available until next year.

Anonymous writes "The new version of DBACentral for MySQL has been released.
DBACentral v1.4 introduces PHP-based web pages for viewing and editing
table data, secure SSH tunneling, and other features.
Download link: http://microolap.com/products/database/mydbacentral/download/
Registered users may update to the new version of DBACentral
freely. Just download and reinstall it.
Full list of current changes:
[+] PHP-based web pages are added to DBACentral for MySQL. Now it
allows you to create PHP/HTML tables and forms for viewing and editing
MySQL data through the web. You can create design web forms with
tables, input controls, images, etc. using WSIWYG designer, edit HTML
source directly, select preferable interface from several pre-defined
templates, view the result page data directly within the application,
and perform a lot of other actions, which will make your MySQL/PHP
development much easier and faster.
[+] The secure shell (SSH) tunneling is now implemented in DBACentral.
Now when creating a connection profile you can enable SSH tunneling,
define the SSH host parameters and connect to your MySQL database
through SSH.
[+] New features are added to the data forms: now the navigation bar
can be linked to the grid component; the navigation bar and the filter
button can also be hidden by setting the respective options off.
[+] Now you can tune the grid column widths when designing the form.
Set the appropriate values using the Columns property within the Form
Inspector.
[-] Errors occurred on working with MySQL v4.1.7 are now fixed.
[-] Fixed errors with auto-creating forms from tables, which names
contain spaces or start with numbers.
[-] Fixed error with executing queries from forms in run-time.
[-] Fixed several errors with MS Access import.
